This is a series of excellent photographs taken in the American West in the late 1970s and early 1980s by noted photographer Richard Avedon. Avedon's work was sponsored by the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, which had, under its director, Mitchell A. Wilde, built a unique collection of 19th and 20th century photographs on the West. The photographs, taken over a period of five years, were exhibited at the Amon Center in the fall of 1985.
