When their old green car has trouble starting one morning, Matthew worries that Daddy won't be able to pick him up from school at the end of the day. To allay his fears, Daddy comes up with a fanciful list of all the ways he might fetch Matthew: He'll ride the neighbor's red tractor. He'll be carried by Matthew's teddy bear. He'll ask the bird in the trees to fly him to the school! No matter what, Daddy will always be there for Matthew.

Big Wolf has always lived alone at the top of a hill under a tree, so when a little wolf suddenly arrives one day, he does not know what to think.

When Little Wolf does not return after chasing an orange that Big Wolf has tossed to him, Big Wolf begins to worry about all the things that might have happened to his friend.
