SYBIL is a 2007 American made-for-television drama film directed by Joseph Sargent and written by John Pielmeier based on the 1973 book of the same name by Flora Rheta Schreiber which fictionalized the story of Shirley Ardell Mason, who was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder (more commonly then as "split personality", now called dissociative identity disorder). The preternaturally gifted director and choreographer Bob Fosse turned the camera on his own life for this madly imaginative, self-excoriating musical masterpiece. Roy Scheider gives the performance of his career as Joe Gideon, whose exhausting work schedule-mounting a Broadway production by day and editing his latest movie at night; and routine of amphetamines, booze, and sex are putting his health at serious risk.
