Tacit knowledge in organizational learning
Description
Tacit knowledge in an organization refers to the implicit knowledge that individuals make use of that is not openly expressed or taught. Busch (computing, Macquarie University, Canada) offers academicians and practitioners an illustration of the importance of tacit knowledge to an organization. He presents a means to measure and track tacit knowledge in individuals, and gives recommendations on ways to find and use tacit knowledge. Early chapters provide background on this area of research through an examination of knowledge management. Chapters on methodological foundations introduce the concept of knowledge flows as a means of knowledge transfer, and outline a methodology for eliciting tacit knowledge. Later chapters describe the results of recent research on tacit knowledge, using case examples. A conclusion offers recommendations. Appendices offer tacit knowledge maps, sociograms, supporting data, and the questionnaire used in the author's research. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
