Paludi and Neidermeyer assemble eight essays that discuss the balance between home and family life, with an emphasis on women's issues in the workplace. They particularly look at the impact of employed mothers on children's achievement and social development, legislation such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, child care and elder care, and family-friendly policies. Other chapters address laws that include gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered individuals; pregnancy discrimination; and work and family balance in academia. Resources are provided, including sample policies and procedures, for employees, employers, and human resource specialists. In addition, these issues are considered through a multicultural perspective. Contributors, who are psychologists, attorneys, management consultants, lobbyists, and academics from the US, have taught, consulted, or facilitated training programs, and conducted research on the subject. Paludi (psychology, Union College and Union Graduate College) is associated with a company that provides consulting and training services. Neidermeyer teaches accounting and management at Union Graduate College. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
