Acrylic paint can seem an accessible medium with which an aspiring artist might begin to create, and here artist and author Isaac offers an approachable guide that moves from basics to advanced methods. Each aspect of using acrylics, including techniques, tools, and combinations with other media, is addressed in a concise description that refers to a work of art by an established artist. These works are shown in full-page detail and show off the characteristics being highlighted. "Try it yourself" features offer step-by-step instructions for achieving the described effect, with detail illustrations showing what each phase should look like. Techniques build on one another until the reader is equipped with a toolbox that will allow them to realize their vision. Brief biographies with links to websites are provided for each of the contributing artists, and a glossary and index afford the reader easy reference. The use of featured artworks by contemporary working artists makes this not only a useful instructional guide, but also a handy introduction to some of the notables working in this medium today.
