Description
This volume is concerned with the consequences of pension reforms enacted in Europe over the past decade to accommodate the effects of an aging society. In addition, the authors explore questions such as the consequences and effectiveness of public-private pension systems, particularly for citizens without lifelong, full-time employment histories. Editors Meyer and Bridgen, lecturers at the U. of Southampton, UK, and Riedmuller (political science, Freie U. Berlin) use a number of case studies to study pension systems and their levels of exclusivity in Britain, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Poland. The authors also incorporate discussions of apparent trends away from public provision to more private forms of pension and their consequences.
