Description

The #1 New York Times bestselling Red Queen series, perfect for fans of Lauren Robert's Powerless and George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series, comes to a stunning conclusion in War Storm.

VICTORY COMES AT A PRICE.

Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart—and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her—Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all . . . starting with the crown on Maven’s head.

But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolish everything—and everyone—in his path.

War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?

In the epic conclusion to Victoria Aveyard’s stunning series, Mare must embrace her fate and summon all her power . . . for all will be tested, but not all will survive.

Booklist Review

The end has come at last for Mare Barrow and her band of revolutionaries. Though she fights on the same side as Cal, the deposed Silver prince and, once, her love, a rift has grown between them; Cal has chosen his crown over Mare and her people, the long-oppressed Reds. But the bigger problem is his brother, the obsessive, destructive King Maven. With Iris Cygnet, his Lakeland queen, a woman with her own powers and agenda, at his side, Maven is a force to be reckoned with, and this battle will take a heavy toll before it is done. In this showstopping finale to a series begun with Red Queen (2015), the women take center stage: chapter perspectives alternate primarily between Mare, Iris, and Evangeline, the formidable princess who resists marrying Cal because of her love for another woman. The world has widened greatly since the series started the cast is huge, the plot sprawling but the legions of readers who have been here from the beginning will be dying to know how it all ends.--Maggie Reagan Copyright 2018 Booklist

Horn Book Review

Betrayed by love and exhausted from battle in King's Cage, Mare and her united rebel front seek unexpected reinforcements for the war against the mentally unstable king, Maven. Several of Aveyard's narrators are unapologetically elitist, which makes for interesting character studies but unsympathetic story lines. However, the political scheming and elemental fighting that ensue should maintain readers' interest in this fourth and final novel. (c) Copyright 2019.
