Can you believe it's been 10 years since Greg Heffley made his first appearance on the kidlit scene? Well, Diary of a Wimpy Kid's publisher is making sure you remember through its joint anniversary celebration and book launch for Greg's twelfth misadventure, complete with author tour and sweepstakes. Sick of cold, wintry weather, Mr. and Mrs. Heffley make a snap decision to skip Christmas and take the family to tropical Isla de Corales. Greg's not sold on the plan, but everyone else is excited to spend a week lounging in the sun. Kinney nails the stress of holiday travel, rolling out a hilariously believable string of things gone wrong, starting with leaving the house too late, luggage woes, long airport security lines, flight delays, and dwindling phone batteries. Nightmare seating on the plane and turbulence add to this vacation's already bumpy start. Of course, life at the resort isn't the relaxing experience it was advertised to be, and readers will be clutching their sides with laughter as the Heffleys' mishaps pile up. Throughout, Greg's anxieties and general misery over his situation lend even more humor to the story, as do Kinney's signature drawings. Highly entertaining and relatable, Kinney proves he's still got it after all these years.--Smith, Julia Copyright 2018 Booklist
Horn Book Review
In his twelfth adventure, Greg's family goes on a tropical island vacation. In true Wimpy Kid fashion, everything goes wrong--from a screaming baby on the airplane to a giant spider in the hotel room. Things get so bad that the Heffleys eventually have to flee from the resort. Greg's unique comic perspective is supported by Kinney's trademark cartoons on every page. (c) Copyright 2019.
