The editors (of the Heritage Foundation and the Hudson Institute) present case studies that examine the successes and failures of US government interagency co-operation in response to crisis. The case studies discuss the 1918 influenza pandemic, information operations during World War II, public diplomacy during the Cold War, recovery efforts after the 1964 Alaskan earthquake, the "pacification" efforts of the Office of Civil Operations and Revolutionary Development Support during the Vietnam War, the Iran-Contra scandal, the 1990s intervention in Bosnia and Kosovo, the Asian financial crisis, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and Hurricane Katrina. Also included is a research review of interagency problems and proposals. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
