Description
The Great Road style refers to a route that locals traveled from the eastern seaboard to the western frontier. Here, White assembles examples of decorative arts in this style made before 1940 in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. As part of the Cultural Heritage Project, research was done over a period of nine years in a door-to-door survey of residences in these counties. Following an introduction to the style, White presents color photos and descriptions of furniture, chairs, textiles, pottery, painting and decoration, metalwork, baskets, and musical instruments made before 1940. White is the Executive Director of the William King Regional Arts Center. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
