Description

This episode introduces ACORN (Arlington County On-line Resource Network). After a brief introduction by Jayne McQuade, the program goes into an overview of "Everybody's Catalog". Dan Connole shows Ellen Bozman, a member of the Arlington County Board, how to use the new system using various search strategies. Jayne McQuade then introduces Novelist. Karen Huston, fiction specialist, explains to Giam Nguyen, a patron, something about this new tool. After describing "Novelist", she goes on to explain how one can use it for reading suggestions, to find books in various genres, to create reading lists, and to finally discover if our library holds any of the books found through Novelist. The last segment of this episode deals with our capacity to access the Internet at any of the Arlington Library branches. Andrea McGlinchey, reference librarian, assists a patron, Giam Nguyen, in finding job sources on the Internet. Using Netscape they discover various sites with job resources, as well as other sites dealing with college/career and financial aid information.
