Description

"Fresh, fun and romantic."—SARAH MORGAN, USA Today bestselling author of A Wedding in December

How the moose (almost) stole Christmas.

Lana Montgomery is everything the quirky small town of Moose Springs, Alaska can't stand: a rich socialite with dreams of changing things for the better. But Lana's determined to prove that she belongs…even if it means trading her stilettos for snow boots and tracking one of the town's hairiest Christmas mysteries: the Santa Moose, an antlered Grinch hell-bent on destroying every bit of holiday cheer (and tinsel) it can sink its teeth into.

And really…how hard could it be?

The last few years have been tough on Rick Harding, and it's not getting any easier now that his dream girl's back in town. When Lana accidentally tranquilizes him instead of the Santa Moose, it's clear she needs help, fast…and this could be his chance to finally catch her eye. It's an all-out Christmas war, but if they can nab that darn moose before it destroys the town, Rick and Lana might finally find a place where they both belong…together.

Booklist Review

It's Christmas time in Morgenthale's second rom-com set in Moose Springs, Alaska, following The Tourist Attraction (2020), but not everyone is jolly. The townsfolk are sick of tourists, and with super-rich Lana Montgomery busy building luxury condominiums, they foresee the problem getting worse. Divorced pool-hall owner Rick Harding is one of the few locals who doesn't hate Lana. Quite the opposite, he's enamored with her, even after she shoots him with a tranquilizer dart, taking him for a moose. Lana is attracted to Rick, but can a holiday fling become anything more when she travels all the time for work? Though the pacing meanders, and drama sometimes feels forced, this love story of two lonely souls coming together during the holidays is sure to bring Christmas joy and more than a few laughs.

Publisher's Weekly Review

The endearing second rom-com in Morgenthaler's Moose Springs, Alaska series (after The Tourist Attraction) pairs the divorced proprietor of the local pool hall with a lonely Alaska newcomer. When Lana Montgomery comes to Moose Springs to build a luxury condo complex, she's met with suspicion and hostility from the locals--all save for the lovably nerdy Rick Harding, who's willing to give the dazzling Lana a chance. Rick, a folksy animal lover who dresses his pet hedgehog in Christmas-themed outfits for the holidays, worries that property czar Lana is too sophisticated to return his affections. But they share a common passion: the offbeat town of Moose Springs itself. Rick musters the courage to ask Lana out, leading to a first date in an eerie B and B restaurant straight out of The Shining. Morgenthaler's description of that disastrous outing is sure to prompt belly laughter from readers. Meanwhile, in a quirky subplot, Lana hopes to win over the rest of the townsfolk by capturing the elusive Santa Moose, a rampaging animal that destroys the town's Christmas decorations year after year. Tight plotting, hilarious supporting characters--especially grumpy diner owner Graham and his sunny girlfriend, Zoey--and adorable romance will keep readers turning the pages. This holiday rom-com can be enjoyed at any time of year. Agent: Sara Megibow, KT Literary. (Oct.)
