History by the Block is an educational design seeking to strengthen the teaching of history in the Arlington Public Schools by focusing attention on the role of architecture and the design process in American social history. This unit, The Capitol Experience in Washington, D.C., combines the history of the U.S. Capitol and its Greek and Roman revival architecture as a symbol of our government. It includes six lesson plans and was written to meet requirements of 11th grade American history.
