Booklist Review

Ages 3-6. The crisply edged, brightly colored illustrations that have become signatures of the Rockwells' books again invite youngsters into a first experience. This time the pair follows a young girl as she ponders the first snowfall of the year and then revels in its chilly whiteness the next day. Eager listeners and novice readers will relish the careful identification of winter garments, a snow shovel, a sled, and hot cocoa as items that make a snowy day special. BAH. Snow [CIP] 86-23712

School Library Journal Review

PreS Familiar objects and activities are identified in a family setting as a little girl experiences the first snowfall of winter. The Rockwells' single - and double - page watercolors in bright pas tels are crisp and appealing. The format is similar to that used in the authors ' earlier books. The text, however, is somewhat choppy and lacks the flow of Keats' classic Snowy Day (Viking, 1962). Preschoolers will nevertheless identify with this common event and will enjoy the clear uncluttered pictures which are large enough to be used for story hours.
