Bergoglio was born on December 17. 1936. He grew up in Buenos Aires. That is the capital city of Argentina. Bergoglio was the oldest of five children. As a boy, he played soccer and basketball with his friends. His grandmother Rosa taught hinm to pray. On Sundays, he went to church with his family.
