SAMPLE TEXT: Seymour was sad. He sighed. He missed his brother, Brice. So Seymour wrote a letter. Dear Brice, Would you like to visit? We could play our favorite game, Mice and Dice, Your brother, Seymour. Soon an envelope came in the mail. It was from Brice. It held one small slice of cheese and one big message. Brice was coming to visit! Splat's tail wobbled with delight. Seymour is a fantastic friend, and now we'll have twice the mice! thought Splat. Splat couldn't wait to tell his family. Guess what? he said at breakfast. Seyour's brother, Brice is coming to visit tomorrow!

Horn Book Review

Text by Jacqueline Resnick. Splat's mouse friend Seymour's brother, Brice, is coming to visit, and the high-strung cat is so excited he's losing sleep. Splat prepares an awesome surprise for Brice, but it backfires--or does it? The slight text sometimes feels tied down by its internal rhymes, but the sound repetition should help new readers. The illustrations (in Scotton's style) humorously convey action and emotion. (c) Copyright 2016. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
