Organization & arrangement of materials
RG 23 is arranged into three subgroups. The first comprises research materials for Mrs. Templeman's two books. It is divided into two series,"Arlington" and "other Virginia locations". Each Series is arranged alphabetically. The second subgroup, additional research, is subdivided the same way as the first subgroup. The third subgroup containing material from other activities and publications is generally arranged alphabetically. The series in subgroup three that have information related to Arlington are marked with an *.

Description
Much of the material in this collection was generated or collected during research for the books, Arlington Heritage and Northern Virginia Heritage. Included are correspondence, notes, clippings, and pamphlets. The record group also contains papers relecting Mrs. Templeman's involvement in civic organizations such as the Arlington Cultural Heritage Commission (1962-1975) and the Arlington Historical Society (1976-1981). Researchers will find a wealth of detailed and carefully evaluated information on Northern Virginia sites and historical figures.
Biographical or Historical Data
Eleanor Lee Templeman (1907-1990) grew up in California. She lived in rlington from 1935 until her death. She served as historian of the Society of the Lees of Virginia, and was an active local historian, publishing Arlington Heritage: Vignettes of a Virginia County (1959) and Northern Virginia Heritage (1966). She contributed many articles to Virginia historical publications, and received awards for her research achievements, including one from Marymount University (1975) and from the American Association for State and Local History (1983).
