RG 20 is arranged into eleven subgroups, each reflecting a broad topical area of Lyle Bryant's activities and local involvement. Within each subgroup, a number of record series have been established based primarily on the name of a particular commission, committee, or issue.

Lyle C. Bryant, a long-time Arlington resident, was involved in a variety of contemporary urban issues facing the residents of the local metropolitan area. During his lifetime, he was primarily interested in studying and developing solutions to the problems of urban community development. Mr. Bryant served on numerous metro-area commissions, committees, and advisory boards. Most of the activities of these groups focused on issues such as urban renewal, community development, planning, housing, health and welfare, economic opportunity, education, community involvement, university research, and local government. Lyle Bryant was one of the founders of the still active Committe of 100.
