Biographical or Historical Data
H.H. Douglas, an author and historian, served as Chairman of the Falls Church Historical Commission (1970-1976) and later as the Historian/Archivist. Along with his wife, June, he began the Falls Church Historical News and Notes. This publication, issued quarterly from the 1970s through the early 1980s, is credited with inaugurating a period of community preservation in Falls Church. Douglas's oral history collection is part of the Falls Church historical collection housed at the Mary Riley Public Library. Material Culture was of particular interest to Douglas. In 1967, he founded the Pioneer America Society and served as Executive Director. The goal of the Pioneer America Society was to discover, document, and preserve evidence of pioneer America. Towards this goal, Douglas surveyed counties in Virginia to locate existing pioneer structures.
