Description
Record Group 54 houses records of the Arlington (Virginia) Symphony. Types of material include programs, minutes, finiancial records, correspondence and clippings.
Biographical or Historical Data
The Arlington Symphony began in 1946 as a volunteer organization with the Symphony Association serving in a supporting capacity. This partnership of volunteer musicians and volunteer music lovers produced a vibrant orchestra. In 1966, while under financial pressures, the Symphony gained county approval to hire a musical director and become a more professional organization. Today, the Symphony produces both a youth concert series and an annual scholarship competition, while providing Arlington musicians an outlet to perform. The Women's Committee's mission is to advance the interests of the Symphony by promoting memberships, attending concerts, and performing fundraising projects.
