Biographical or Historical Data
The Senior Citizens' Day Center opened on January 23, 1964 and became the first facility in the Washington Metropolitan area dedicated to providing the elderly community with daily activities and social events. The First Presbyterian Church in Arlington donated the space for the Center's activites. The Center grew out of a suggestion presented by the Commission on Aging and the Housing Commmittee of Arlington County. Unfortunately, by 1998 the Center had too much competition from other organizations with activities geared towards seniors. In addition, the Arlington County Government operates nine senior citizen centers. The Day Center closed in 1998.
