Biographical or Historical Data
Elmira Bier (1896-1976) spent forty-nine years working at the Phillips Collection, formerly the Phillips Memorial Gallery, in many different capacities including the personal secretary to Duncan Phillips. One of her most important responsibilities was to administer the immensely popular weekly concert series that began in the 1930s and opened to the public in 1941. She was also active in the community, serving as a trustee of the Kindler Foundation, Friday Morning Music Club Foundation, and president of the Old Washington Music Council.
