Description
Collection 113 consists primarily of records from the early 1980s through the 1990s and includes correspondence, meeting minutes, treasurer's reports, membership information, and neighborhood conservation program materials gathered or created in the conduct of Westover Civic Association business.
Biographical or Historical Data
The Westover neighborhood is located in the western section of the county. A. Duke Torreyson and Robert S. Lacey owned the farm land that in 1940 was subdivided to create Westover, Overlee-Knolls, Fostoria, and Highland Park. There is not much information about the early Westover Civic Association. Its membership in the Arlington County Civic Federation can be traced only as far back as the early 1940s although membership prior to that date is very possible. Over the years the association either ceased to function or perhaps disbanded completely. This is known because in 1981 several community members conducted a survey to gauge support and interest in reorganizing and revitalizing the Westover Civic Association. Following a favorable report from the surveyors, the organization created a new constitution and by-laws and was again accepted as a member in the Arlington County Civic Federation.
