School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 1--Pete and Bob scare themselves with a spooky story and learn that it is okay to feel scared sometimes in this reassuring early reader. The familiar blue face and yellow eyes of Pete will delight young fans as they experience a common dilemma: the scary story! While sitting around a fire on a dark and cold night, Bob tells Pete about a monster with seven yellow eyes and spaghetti for arms. As they go through the rest of their evening routines, watching television, eating dinner (spaghetti!), and going to bed, Pete grapples with lingering feelings of fear from the story. Short, simple, repetitive sentences make this a great choice for emerging readers and fans of Pete the Cat alike. VERDICT Recommended for purchase where Pete and early readers are in demand.--Kristy Pasquariello
