RG 7B is arranged according to the original organization of the donated scrapbook. There are four series which correspond directly to the four sections of the scrapbook. Similarly, each folder in the collection matches up with each page of the scrapbook.

Hoffman-Boston High School was one of the African-American schools in Arlington County's segregated school system, and closed after desegregation due to redictricting. RG 7B contains a mix of textual and visual materials that were originally compiled into a scrapbook by Ophelia Taylor Pinkard, a former teacher at Hoffman-Boston High School.

Hoffman-Boston School was built in 1916 to educate the African-American children of Arlington County. In its early years, it had students in grades 1 through 8; in 1942 the school graduated its first class of high school seniors. As a result of desegregation in Arlington County, the School Board decided to close Hoffman-Boston High School as many of its students and teachers were transferred to other area schools. In 1964, Hoffman-Boston graduated its last class of seniors.
