Record Group 29A is organized into seven series by type of material. Within each series, arrangement is generally chronological. Series 6, Subject Files, has subseries, and both are arranged alphabetically.

RG 29A includes bylaws, minutes, correspondence, newsletters, financial and tax records, subject files and clippings. These records document the official activities of the Friends, including administrative duties, membership, fundraising, financial transactions and publicity.

Founded in 1962, the Friends of the Arlington County Public Library generally help to improve the services and facilities of the library. To advance these ends, members publish a newsletter and raise funds, primarily through used books sales. The money is then donated to the library for specific purposes, such as buying equipment and supplies, providing for staff training and programming for children and adults of the kind expected at a large public library.
