Meet Pearl, a labrador retriever who was in an animal shelter in California in 2007. She needed a home, but no one would adopt her because of her high energy until someone from the SDF (Search Disaster Foundation) thought she would be perfect for their program, and she was. No wonder, her breed was noted for helping fishermen in Canada retrieve fish that wriggled off their hooks and drag in heavy fishing nets to shore. At that time they were known as St. John's water dogs as they loved to be in water and are very strong swimmers. They also are popular family dogs with good temperaments and love to play outdoors as well as snuggle up with their owners.
