Description
History by the Block is an educational design seeking to strengthen the teaching of history in the Arlington Public Schools by focusing attention on the role of architecture and the design process in American social history. This unit, "Freedman's Village, Arlington, Virginia, 1863-1900," demonstrates how African Americans lived during and after the Civil War in the first government-provided housing. It includes five lesson plans and was produced for grades 7-8.
