Booklist Review

Gr. 6-9. In the latest in the Warriors: The New Prophecy series, the six cats, four of whom have been chosen by the StarClan to save the clans, discover the midnight that they are to listen to is actually a badger named Midnight. The animal reveals the StarClan's warnings and sets the six on a path through the mountains to return to the clans. Once in the mountains, the companions encounter a tribe of cats with its own way of doing things and a mysterious prophesy. Told in alternating narratives, the story follows the intrepid questers and the plight of the clans as the Twolegs make incursions into the forest. The danger intensifies as does a sense of possible doom. The conclusion is a cliffhanger that will leave readers eager for the next installment. --Sally Estes Copyright 2005 Booklist

Horn Book Review

In the latest book in this series, the six cats from Midnight begin their return journey, with the task of bringing the new prophecy to their clans. Along the way, they face dangers that put at risk their chances of getting home safely. Hunter successfully weaves character, plot, and good writing into another readable story. (c) Copyright 2010. Kirkus Book Review

This second entry in a cat adventure series has solid plotting and enhanced complexity but is marred by the same preciousness of its predecessor. Six cats are far from home, on a quest for information that may save their forest from destructive Twolegs (humans). Though the cats come from different Clans, they've bonded on the trip, so when they meet an unknown cat Tribe and new dangers, they work together. The strange Tribe has had a vision in which one of the Clan cats is their savior; does this give him a moral obligation to fulfill their prophecy? Meanwhile, back at home, cats desperately watch their forest bulldozed and their prey disappear. Hunter's writing is mundane, the cats' names blend (Leafpaw, Squirrelpaw, Brambleclaw), and the replacement of the verb "said" with "meowed" and "mewed" is repeatedly cloying. However, a small plot twist is refreshing and suspense builds steadily towards the final installment, the plot of which is nicely unpredictable.
