PreS--"Hello, everybodeee!" Grover and friends get ready for Shabbat. This brightly colored board book depicts familiar Sesame Street characters as they prepare for a "tasty Shabbat dinner." A single sentence on each page describes actions such as cleaning the house or setting the table. Illustrations focus on single aspects of preparation, with uncluttered backgrounds and only essential details. Various characters hold the challah cover, the Kiddush cup, and the Shabbat candlesticks. Two of the characters also wear yarmulkes. Readers will see the friends sweeping the floor, carrying the bread to the table, and enjoying their matzah ball soup after saying the appropriate prayers. The wording of the text, in which the author begins many of the sentences with "We," encourages readers to feel they are part of the story. VERDICT A useful purchase to have on hand to include or introduce Jewish holidays.--Suzanne Costner
