Gr. 4-6. Originally published in 1907, this book concerns four likable English children and their adventures with a magic ring. It's hard to imagine a more appealing showcase for Nesbit's fantasy than this handsome volume, which features paper of fine quality, pages with generous margins, and a dozen plates with full-page illustrations. With fine, cross-hatched lines tinted in luminous colors, Zelinsky's artwork is as lively as the story and very much of the period. While the novel is not one of Nesbit's best, this beautiful book is recommended for larger fiction collections. ~--Carolyn Phelan
