Description

The New York Times bestselling author of Pucked and The Good Luck Charm delivers a Hollywood happily-ever-after where a famous heartthrob falls for his ultimate fangirl. "As charming as its title, but it's also so much more... Fans of Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date and Helen Hoang's The Kiss Quotient will love Meet Cute." --The Washington Independent Review of BooksKailyn Flowers was always calm, rational, and controlled--until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. Then she did the unthinkable: She became a mortifying fangirl in five seconds flat, which may or may not have included professing her undying love. And oddly, he didn't run away. In fact, their meet cute led to a friendship she never saw coming. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming, either...Now Dax needs her help. As guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister, he's in way over his head. And though Kailyn hasn't forgiven Dax, she isn't heartless enough to make him fend for himself, either. Soon their friendly meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him?Goodreads Hottest Romances of 2019Featured in Entertainment WeeklyO, The Oprah Magazine Best Romance Novels of 2019Featured on PopSugarWomen's HealthBest Romance Novels of 2019SheReads Most Anticipated Reads of 2019Heroes & Heartbreakers Anticipated Books of 2019Chatelaine's Hottest Romances of 2019

Kailyn Flowers thought meet cute only happened in the movies until one day she had her very own with Daxton Hughes, the teen TV heartthrob Kailyn had been crushing on for years. She bumped into Dax while the two of them were law students at UCLA. For a time, it seemed like their new friendship might blossom into a full-blown romance, but then Dax did the unthinkable and betrayed Kailyn. Now, five years later, Dax is back in Kailyn's life hoping she can help him with the trust that has been set up for Dax's younger sister, Emme. Kailyn is fully prepared to treat Dax just like any other client, but this would be so much easier to do if he just wasn't still so ridiculously hot! Best-selling Hunting's latest humorous and heartfelt love story, following The Good Luck Charm (2018), is another smartly plotted and perfectly executed rom-com with a spot-on sense of snarky wit and a generous helping of smoldering sexual chemistry.--John Charles Copyright 2010 Booklist

Publisher's Weekly Review

Naming a book after a clichAc of the genre is a brave move that doesn't pay off for Hunting (the Pucked series). The first encounter between Kailyn Flowers and Daxton Hughes is far from cute; it's as forced and foolish as Dax's best friend, Felix, whose dialogue includes such immortal lines as "Teenage girls are like rabid, angry puppies." This thread of misogyny runs through the book, punctuated by nonconsensual touching in professional and public spaces and similar boundary-ignoring behavior ("I keep pushing, though, because she's obviously flustered," Dax narrates without a hint of self-awareness). After their initial connection, Kailyn and Dax part on bad terms. Eight years later, Dax, a former child star turned entertainment lawyer, hires Kailyn, a trust lawyer, to secure his young sister Emme's financial future. His parents are active in the process-until they're killed in a crash. Dax is named Emme's guardian, but his shady aunt sues for custody, which keeps Kailyn in the picture as Emme's conservator. Meanwhile, Kailyn's boss bribes her to lure Dax to their firm. The tragedy is as cheap and forced as the comedy, and the romance is a kid-centered enemies-to-lovers scenario that brings nothing memorable to the table. Readers will be too put off by Dax's obnoxious aggression to find anything romantic in this disappointing novel. Agent: Kimberly Brower, Brower Literary & Mgmt. (Apr.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. Kirkus Book Review

A woman reunites with her law school crush-turned-enemy, but this time he needs her help.Kailyn grew up obsessed with the television show It's My Lifespecifically the show's hunky teen star, Daxton Hughes. When she runs into him, literally, on her first day of law school, she can't help but fangirl all over the place. Their awkward meeting blossoms into a sort of competitive friendship. After they graduate, she assumes she'll never talk to him again. That is, until he shows up in her law office eight years later. His parents have died in a car accident, and Daxton needs Kailyn's help reviewing a trust they set up for his teenage sister, Emme. Then, when Daxton's aunt sues for custody, Kailyn is appointed Emme's conservator, essentially becoming her legal guardian. As an adoptee who spent part of her childhood in a bad foster-care situation, Kailyn is especially invested in making sure that Emme has stability in her life. But in the course of advocating for Emme, Kailyn gets to know the real Daxton, not the made-up version she's hated for the last eight years, and discovers she's falling for him. Will their professional entanglements and messy history keep them apart, or was their law school meet-cute the beginning of their love story? Kailyn and Daxton's story is a bit more dramatic and angst-y than the book's title implies, but that's not a bad thing. Both characters are carrying a lot of baggage, with believable obstacles in the way of their romance. Hunting's (Shaking Up, 2018, etc.) latest is perfect for fans of Helen Hoang's The Kiss Quotient.A fun and steamy love story with high stakes and plenty of emotion.
