It's not your average police procedural when Scotland Yard's Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison shows up to solve a murder. DCI Tennison battles not only the clock to catch a murderer of women but also the sexist attitudes of the male police personnel. She is a fully developed character whose attitudes resonate with the reader, and -LaPlante's plot is great. Davina Porter's narration is near perfection in every aspect, from her accents to her masterly use of inflection; she makes listening a real pleasure. Note that LaPlante's teleplay, made famous in the UK by Dame Helen Mirren, won an Edgar Award, which may generate additional interest.
