Description

It’s another first for Maisy! The intrepid mouse is off to the big city with Charley. A perfect story for young children going on an urban adventure.Broom, vroom, beep! Maisy and Charley are in the city visiting their friend Dotty, and there are many things to get used to - noisy traffic, enormous buildings, and sidewalks so crowded they have to walk very slowly (all the better for looking in store windows). Riding the escalator and elevator - and hanging on tight in the subway - are almost as much fun as exploring the giant toy store and eating pizza in a cafe. Even the playground is busy in the city!

Publisher's Weekly Review

Maisy and her alligator friend, Charley, visit Dotty the donkey in the city, where they discover busy streets with noisy cars, giant buildings, and lots of shops, including an enormous toy store where Maisy momentarily gets lost. Cousins's familiarly sturdy gouache scenes, rendered in bright primary colors, pair with simple sentences in a playful font ("They squish into the subway car. Hang on tight, everyone!"). As ever, Cousins paints a vibrant, tangible, and inviting world for preschool-aged readers. Ages 3-up. (June) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.

Horn Book Review

Cousins's familiar bold-color art outlined in heavy black lines illustrate this straightforward story about Maisy's trip to the city. When Maisy and Charley visit their friend Dotty, they navigate the crowded sidewalks and streets, visit a toy store, and ride a subway. Maisy briefly gets lost at the toy store, but the crisis is quickly resolved. (c) Copyright 2011. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
