Description

Though she's the vampire queen, Betsy Taylor is much more like a princess. In MaryJanice Davidson's novels, this high-maintenance monarch is finally coming to terms with her new status. They say Christmas is a time for friends and family. But with a half-sister who's the devil's daughter, an evil stepmother, a fiend living in her basement, assorted spirits and killers running amok, and a spring wedding to plan with the former bane of her existence, Eric Sinclair, Betsy is not sure she'll survive the holidays. Oh, right. She's already dead...

In Davidson's latest Undead romp, Betsy Taylor, Queen of the Vampires, is busy planning her wedding, babysitting for her new little brother, and feeding the feral vampire who crochets in the basement of the mansion where she writes a "Dear Betsy" column for a new vampire newsletter. Hunky Nick, a cop from her past, is heading up the task force to find the Driveway Killer, who targets women who look like Betsy. Betsy's best friend, Jessica, starts going out with Nick, and Betsy, who can get into enough trouble on her own, may wind up in over her head with the help of her crazy sister, the ghost of a Driveway Killer victim, and a cute college boy. --Diana Tixier Herald Copyright 2005 Booklist

Betsy is finally enjoying her royal undead status. Of course, anything would be easier than planning her wedding; she can't set a date much less buy shoes. Naturally, these are the least of her concerns. Ordinarily, the local serial killer wouldn't be her problem, but she sees ghosts now, and they won't leave her alone until she agrees to put a stop to him. Just one more day in the life of the Vampire Queen. Nancy Wu's delivery is spot on for Betsy's dry wit and self-centered yet self-aware demeanor. Though Wu's voice is too feminine to exude Eric Sinclair's sex appeal, she has his condescension cold. Women star in this installment, and Wu has a wide range of characterizations at her disposal. Davidson's books are even more amusing heard than read. Recommended.-Jodi L. Israel, MLS, Jamaica Plain, MA (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor isn't about to let little things like a serial killer and the vengeful ghost of one of his victims keep her from getting on with her holiday preparations, or planning her wedding to gorgeous Eric Sinclair, her royal counterpart in the Minneapolis vampire world. But privilege has its price, and before long Betsy is caught up in another hilarious, outrageous romp that takes off in all directions, reprises past characters, and has more than one unexpected twist. This latest novel in Davidson's popular series (Undead and Unappreciated ) adds to the Minnesota-based author's reputation as a major player in the chick-lit paranormal market.
