Description

He’s tantalizing trouble she can’t resist…Charlotte Parrish has always wanted a certain kind of man: someone responsible, settled, boring. Bad boys need not apply. But when her car leaves her stranded and a mysterious stranger with brooding eyes and a protective streak comes to her rescue, she can’t deny how drawn she is to him. In town searching for family he’s never met, Mitch is everything she never thought she wanted—and suddenly everything she craves. Finding his half brothers after all these years is more than Mitch Crews has allowed himself to wish for. Finding love never even crossed his mind…until he meets Charlotte. She’s sweet, warmhearted, sexier than she knows—and too damn good for an ex-con like him. But when his past comes back to haunt him, putting Charlotte—and the family he’s come to care for—in danger, Mitch isn’t playing by the rules. He’s already surrendered his heart, but now he’ll risk his life.

Both authors create passionate romances about ordinary people who value the ties of family and friendship. Their characters are honorable with a strong protective streak, and may exhibit trust issues due to unhappy pasts. Suspenseful subplots ratchet up the emotional tension while an intimate relationship develops. -- Lynne Welch
Thieves, human traffickers, and killers loiter with intent in Lori Foster and Julie Garwood's romantic suspense novels. Tough-guy heroes and intelligent, capable heroines find themselves in trouble and in love. -- Mike Nilsson
Linda Howard and Lori Foster both focus on contemporary romances and romantic suspense novels. Their heroines are no easy conquests -- male and female characters alike are capable, strong, and determined, and the plots are fast-paced, steamy, and appropriately suspenseful. -- Shauna Griffin
Both authors' backlist offers straightforward contemporary romance centered on the importance of family and community. Their stories are frequently set within the context of a large pool of honorable, attractive and oh-so-eligible bachelors in a small-town setting who suddenly meet their match, sometimes in a suspenseful situation. -- Lynne Welch

Publisher's Weekly Review

The Crews family welcomes a surprising new member in the fulfilling but formulaic final installment of Foster's Road to Love trilogy (after Slow Ride). Mitch Crews served five years in prison as the result of his stepfather's drug dealing. Now free, Mitch travels to Red Oak, Ohio, to seek out his half-brothers, Jack and Brodie, the heroes of the previous two books, and their mother, Ros, to see if he can build a life with them, though none of them know of Mitch's existence. When Mitch meets Charlotte Parrish, Jack and Brodie's colleague, he is instantly smitten. Charlotte introduces him to his half-brothers, who quickly come to embrace him, but Mitch struggles to believe he could be worthy of the love of his newfound family, let alone a woman as beautiful and innocent as Charlotte. When Mitch's ruthless stepfather comes to town with a grudge, Mitch must fight to keep his loved ones safe and avoid slipping back into his criminal clutches. Though the plot is predictable and its happy ending veers toward saccharine, Foster's fans will be glad to revisit favorite characters. This earnest romance nicely rounds out the series. Agent: Steven J. Axelrod, Axelrod Agency. (Nov.)
